Steven Platt has been with The Summerhouse Gallery since 2023, and has presented a new collection each year. This year’s collection centres around his largest piece to date, ‘Mount’s Bay’.

“Following on from my last collection, Newlyn Calling, I wanted to expand on those themes and show how Newlyn fits into the context of Mounts Bay. The textures, colour and energy in the paint application all tell a story. They portray Newlyn not in an idealistic way, but as a charming, hard working, bustling, artistic and weathered fishing village. There is a clear contrast in the painting between nature and the human made. The gentle cloud filled sky, the calm and quiet sea, all contrast against the intensity and density of hundreds of years of coastal architectural history.”
