Sallys unique creations are truly a thing of beauty, and the process behind each one is fascinating.
Sourcing plant material such as seaweed and other organic objects like feathers or horse hair from the beach and moorland near her home, she will surround the pots with these objects while they are still red hot from the kiln, and allow the materials to impart their mineral content on the surface in a natural and uncontrived way, creating unexpected patterns and colours in the final piece.
Using a variety of techniques, such a raku or 'slip resist' glazing, these pots are an experience beyond just being a visually attractive work of art. The different glazing techniques create a unique texture on each pot, and the way natural materials, foraged from the stunning Cornish landscape have been utilised to become a part of each piece makes her work something truly special.
TO SUBMIT WORK TO THE SUMMERHOUSE GALLERY
Here at The Summerhouse we love to support both established and new, up and coming artists with an affinity to Cornwall. We do recieve a very large volume of submissions, and although we take care to view every artists work, it is very difficult to discuss work with every single artist who gets in touch.
Please send us a selection of work which you feel best represents you, along with an artists statement and a list of other galleries which represent your work if applicable. You can email this to email@example.com or post to our address, with contact details (email or telephone) which we can reach you via should your application be successful.
We look forward to hearing from you.
The Summerhouse is now CLOSED for our Winter break until Mid February
You can still contact us via email on firstname.lastname@example.org and we will get back to you as soon as we can.
Thank you for your support in 2018 and we look forward to sharing our exciting 2019 plans with you when we reopen!
