Based in St Ives, Sarahs beautiful, unique ceramic works are inspired by her own visual scrap book.
"I collect images, such as the shape of the railing in a hidden doorway in St Ives or an antique glass bottle."
Sarah is also inspired by her natural surroundings, depicting delicate lines and floral details in her work.
Her ceramics are bisque fired, with a variety of glazes and beautifully coloured slips which give her work a contemporary, striking and instantly recognisable appearance which has achieved international acclaim.
"In my work I explore ideas around the half-forgotten memories and images that persist from childhood perhaps a vintage wallpaper, the stylised narrative of my Mothers Willow Pattern plates, or the familiar shape of an opened sardine tin. My aim is to bring these elements together in a finished piece to combine a gentle nostalgia with the absolute, archival permanence of the ceramic medium."
TO SUBMIT WORK TO THE SUMMERHOUSE GALLERY
Here at The Summerhouse we love to support both established and new, up and coming artists with an affinity to Cornwall. We do recieve a very large volume of submissions, and although we take care to view every artists work, it is very difficult to discuss work with every single artist who gets in touch.
Please send us a selection of work which you feel best represents you, along with an artists statement and a list of other galleries which represent your work if applicable. You can email this to firstname.lastname@example.org or post to our address, with contact details (email or telephone) which we can reach you via should your application be successful.
We look forward to hearing from you.
