Eco friendly wrapping for Christmas

We always offer free gift wrapping to all of our customers, all year round! This winter, like many other local businesses we are trying to cut down on the use of packaging which is not recyclable or reusable. As a gallery with plastic-free status we feel this is very important! We do sometimes have to use bubble wrap for fragile pieces, but we have now switched to biodegradable bubblewrap, which of course can be reused!

Our customers have the chance to choose their favourite ribbon from our beautiful collection, and dried flowers which we have been preparing over the autumn!

It's as important to us as it is to you to find the perfect gift for your special someone, we are here to help make this winter a magical one!

We are so proud to have been awarded 'Plastic Free Coastlines Approved Status' from Surfers Against Sewage, and delighted to see that other local business along our beautiful coastline are doing the same.

Here at the Summerhouse we believe in making everything as environmentally friendly as we can, this includes using recycled packaging and eliminating the use of plastic wherever possible.

Through making a series of tiny changes, we will really be able to see a difference in the future, to find out ways in which you can help eliminate the heartbreaking problem of plastic waste along our coast and in our oceans, visit https://www.sas.org.uk/.

Physical Nature

New Artwork From Peter Ceredig Evans

We are delighted to welcome some new pieces to the gallery from Summerhouse artist Peter Ceredig Evans.

Flourishes of physical energy in the form of animated mark making and bursts of colour, like a thought remembered, only to be lost moments later. It is blurred and dreamy, yet not always tranquil; sometimes the energy is chaotic while other aspects of the painting bring peace.

Peter is concerned with the tension around the human experience, which often takes the form of human interaction, saying ‘human interaction is more important than anything else; all we’ve got is relationships’. He often focuses on the power of memory, which is why his paintings carry this ‘dreamlike’ yet completely tangible quality. Like a good poet, his work draws upon specifics, exact personal memories, images, conversations and people that resonate universally. He is especially interested in sense memories, saying that they give such a solid glimpse into one’s own past: ‘they are more than a photograph, they really are real.’
